Workshop
Exhibition with the presentation of the research entitled: Dynamic
interpretations of art from
the 9th to the 22nd On Thursday December 9, 1999, at the Faculty of Architecture of the Milan Polytechnic, via Ampere 2, (Piazza Leonardo da Vinci) the following events will be held : a work session (workshop), a round table and the inauguration of an exibition on the theme of "Dynamic interpretations of art using digital technologies", Principles of direction for the production of art films. The project, accomplished with a grant from the Lombard Region and promoted by Marco Poma (Metamorphosi) and Marisa Galbiati (Milan Polytechnic - Department of Territorial Sciences) offers an interpretation of works of art by means of an innovative method that uses digital technologies as instruments of knowledge and research. The attitude that subtends the whole length of the research, reflecting the qualities of respect and lightness, consists in considering audiovisual media as delicate research prostheses, destined to reveal the expressive and narrative intensity of the works of art under examination, highlighting the aesthetic intuiton contained in them and grasping the plot of the story and the time in which the works of art were produced. This approach inevitably leads to different methods of interpretation : it is in fact impossible to approach making a film of a C16th work of art from the same point of view used to interpret a contemporary work of art. The exposition will reveal, using three examples, three different methods of interpretation of works of art, respecting the metaprojectual indications singled out during the research phase. Though different, the three ways of dynamic interpretation of art are linked by an identical attitude that favours the ethics of attention of the work of art and to its energy : the script has already been written in it ; its just a case of bringing it to light. The works of art that will be examined are : 1. Veronese : The Last Supper (Brera picture - gallery) 2. Mario Sironi : Agriculture or labour in the fields ; architecture or work in the city (Gallery of Modern Art - Accademia Carrara, Bergamo) 3. Piero Manzoni : Artistic works of the painter. In the case of the first two artists, the dynamic interpretation of the pictorial works has been based on an "immaterial restoration" of the lights and on a study of the interpretation criteria singled out, (an analysis of the characters, expression and actions, and of the plastic masses). In the case of Manzoni, a contemporary artist, a narrative structure, that considers the complexity of the entire artistic path of the artist, has been planned. The round table offers an occasion to reflect on the role held by new digital technologies in the acquaintance and socialization of works of art, starting from the assumption that Italy possesses an artistic legacy of inestimable value that needs to be protected, diffused and turned to better account by means of new communicative strategies. The following guests have been invited to the round table : Giovanni Anceschi - Milan Polytechnic ; Luisa Arrigoni - Brera picture-gallery, Milan ; Paolo Biscottini - Diocesano Museum, Milan ; Fausto Colombo - Cattolica University, Milan ; Bruno Contardi - Brera picture-gallery, Milan ; Vittorio Fagone - Contemporary Art Gallery, Bergamo ; Fulvio Irace - Milan Polytechnic ; Alessandra Mottola Molfino - Milan municipality ; Pietro Petraroia - Lombard Region ; Cesare Stevan - Milan Polytechnic.
